English: Zi You asked about filial piety. Confucius replied:"Nowadays to provide for parents is considered to be filial. Similar to dogs and horses, they are also provided for by people as well. Without the respect for your parents, is there any difference?"

Modern: 子游问：“怎样是孝道？” 孔子说：“现在人只把能养父母便算孝了。就是犬马，一样能有人养着。没有对父母一片敬心，又在何处作分别呀！”

Original: 子游问孝。子曰：“今之孝者，是谓能养。至于犬马，皆能有养。不敬，何以别乎？”
