English: Zi Lu stayed for a night at Stone Gate. The morning gate-keeper asked:"From where do you come?" Zi Lu said:"From the Kong's house." The gate keeper said:"Oh the one who knows that it is impossible and yet attempts to do it."

Modern: 子路在石门露宿一夜。看门的人问他：“你从哪里来？” 子路答：“师从孔夫子。” 看门的说：“是明知道其事不可以做，而仍然做的那个？”

Original: 子路宿于石门。晨门曰：“奚自？”子路曰：“自孔氏。”曰： “是知其不可而为之者与？”
