Verse 33 of Analects of Confucius Chapter 7
English: Confucius said:"I doubt I fit the description of a sage or benevolent man. At most, you can say I strive to be like them with great interest, and teach the way without feeling tired." Gong Xi Hua(1) said:" But that is something, we have not been able to learn from."
Modern: 孔子说:“如果说到‘圣人’或‘仁人’,我怎么敢当?我只不过在学习和力行圣和仁道方面从不感到满足,教导人不感到厌倦,就只能如此罢了。” 公西华(一)说:“这就是学生们学不到的。”
Original: 子曰:“若圣与仁,则吾岂敢。抑为之不厌,诲人不倦,则可谓云尔已矣。”公西华曰:“正唯弟子不能学也。”
