Verse 25 of Analects of Confucius Chapter 5

English: Yan Yuan and Zi Lu were in attendance. Confucius asked:"Why not tell me your resolution."

Zi Lu said:"I wish to share my horse carriage, clothes and fur with my friend, and have no regret when they are damaged." Yan Yuan said:"I wish not to boast my strength and achievements."

Zi Lu said:"Can we know what is your resolution?" Confucius said:"Helping the aged to lead a comfortable and stable life, creating trust among friends, making sure care are given to the young."

Modern: 颜渊和季路在旁侍候。孔子道：“各自说说自己的志向吧。”

子路说：“我希望跟朋友共享车马和衣服，即使用坏了也不遗憾。” 颜渊说：“我不希望夸耀自己的长处，不宣扬自己的功劳。”

子路说：“我希望能听听老师的志向。” 孔子说：“我希望能使老人生活安定，使朋友互相信任，使年幼得到照顾。”

子路曰：“愿车马衣轻裘，与朋友共，敝之而无憾。” 颜渊曰：“愿无伐善，无施劳。”
