Verse 24 of Analects of Confucius Chapter 11

English: Zi Lu recommended Zi Gao⁽¹⁾ to be steward of Fei⁽²⁾. Confucius said:"This is ruining the children." Zi Lu said:"There are people there living off the lands, is there a need for them to study and seek office?" Confucius said:"This is why I hate artful speakers."

Modern: 子路推举子羔^(一)为费^(二)邑的长官。孔子说：“你这是害别人的孩子。” 子路说：“那里有人民，也有土地，何必要先读书，然后才做事呢？” 孔子说：“所以我才最讨厌那种疾言巧辩的人。”

Original: 子路使子羔为费宰。子曰：“贼夫人之子。”子路曰：“有民人焉，有社稷焉，何必读书，然后为学。”子曰：“是故恶夫佞者。”
