Verse 21 of Analects of Confucius Chapter 2

English: Someone asked Confucius:"Why do you not take part in Government?" Confucius replied:"One ancient book says:'One is said to practice governance when he is able to practice filial piety and show brotherly love to his friends' So what need is there for me to take part in Government?"

Modern: 有人问孔子：“先生为何不从事政治呀？”孔子答：“古书里有两句话说:‘孝阿！真是孝阿！又能友爱及你的兄弟。’只要在家施行孝弟正当有条理，那也是从事政治了。何必要做官才算参政？”

Original: 或谓孔子曰：“子奚不为政？”子曰：“《书》云：‘孝乎惟孝，友于兄弟，施于有政。’是亦为政，奚其为为政？”
