English: Ran Zi just came back from court session. Confucius asked:"Why are you late?" Ran Zi replied:" Because of official matters." Confucius commented:"Should be family matters? Were there official matters, I would get to hear of them, even though I am no longer given any office."

Modern: 冉子退朝回来。孔子问：“为什么这么晚呀？” 冉子答道：“有政事要处理。” 孔子说：“大概是家事吧？如果是政事，我虽然不再朝，也会有所听闻。”

Original: 冉子退朝。子曰：“何晏也？”对曰：“有政。”子曰：“其事也，如有政，虽不吾以，吾其与闻之。”
