Undesired Characteristics of Generals-Zhuge Liang

There are eight undesired characteristics of a general and they are:

  1. An insatiable greed for material gains.
  2. Jealous of talented, capable people.
  3. Believe rumors and is close to those who knows how to sweet-talk or spread rumors.
  4. Able to assess enemy's situation but able to accurately assess his own.
  5. Indecisive
  6. Indulge in vices
  7. Fake, scheming and timid.
  8. Sly, arrogant and do not act according to policies set out.

将帅之道,有八种弊端:

  • 第一:对财务的需求永不满足,贪得无厌。
  • 第二:对贤德有才能的人非常嫉妒。
  • 第三:听信谗言,亲近巧言谄媚的小人。
  • 第四:能分析敌情,却不能正确估量自己的实力。
  • 第五:遇事犹豫不决,不能果断处理。
  • 第六:沉溺于酒色而不可自拔。
  • 第七:为人虚假、狡诈而又胆小怕事。
  • 第八:狡猾而又傲慢,不依从制度行事。

夫为将之道,有八弊焉,一曰贪而无厌,二曰妒贤嫉能,三曰信谗好佞,四曰料彼不自料,五曰犹豫不自决,六曰荒淫于酒色,七曰奸诈而自怯,八曰狡言而不以礼。
