As a general, he should gain the proper mandate, seize the correct timing and use the correct people to achieve victory. If he has gained the proper mandate and have the right people, but the timing is not right yet, such circumstances is termed as "going against timing". If he has the right people, and the timing is right but he does not have the mandate, such circumstances is termed as "going against the Heaven". If he has gained the proper mandate and the timing is right but he does not have the right people, such circumstancs is termed as "going against the people". Thus a wise general would not go against the Heaven, timing and the people.

作为将帅，必须顺应天、籍用战机、依靠兵员素质等因素，夺取胜利。顺应天，也具备了相应的战斗力，而时机不成熟，这种情形之下出兵就是所谓的逆时；具备了相应的战斗力，也具备了成熟的战机，但不具备顺应天的条件，这种情形之下出兵就是所谓的逆天；具备顺应天的条件，也抓住了战机，但不具备部队相应的战斗力，这种情形之下出兵就是所谓的逆人。明智的将帅，率军打战既不逆天，也不逆时，同时也不逆人。
